Preschool Picassos

Wednesdays: 10:30am-11:30am

Fees: Per child/adult duo for each six-class session: $35 for members and $45 for non-members.

Class Description: Explore art concepts with your child in these age appropriate, curriculum-related, and themed-structured art classes. These classes engage young students in problem solving, creative expression and enhance fine motor coordination through exploration of different art materials.

First Saturday of Every Month: 9am-10:30am ( Starting March 4th)

Ages: 1-5 years old plus parent/adult

Fees: Per child: $5 member and $10 non-member. Adult companion is free. DROP-IN class.

Class Description: Designed with younger children in mind, Art Play is an opportunity for children to engage in art exploration and develop important skills. This program offers age appropriate materials and projects for artists 1- 5 years old. Kids and adults can have all the fun and mess but not in your home! All materials, including aprons, are provided.

Home School Art

Wednesdays:

Grades: K-2 from 1pm-2pm Grades: 3-8 from 2 pm-3pm

Fees: Per child for each six-class session: $40 for members and $50 for non-members.

Class Description: Build skills and learn about different art media in a fun and engaging environment. These multi-disciplinary, curriculum-based classes offer a variety of art projects and promote problem solving skills, communication and collaboration. The class will focus on art styles, concepts behind the art and personal interpretation, while enhancing students’ individual techniques through exploration of the elements of art and principles of design.

The NIC offers families $15.00 off class fees for the second and third child for Preschool Picassos and Homeschool Art classes.

Art Club

Second Saturday of Every Month: 10:30am-12pm

October – May

Ages: 6-12 years old

Fees: Per student per class: $15 per member and $20 per non-member or $110.00 (members) and $140.00(non-members) for annual session. Can join the class anytime.

Class Description: Explore, create, and invent with a variety of art materials and projects, including: drawing, painting, clay, and other mediums.

Art Lab

Thursdays: 4:30pm- 6pm

September 2016 – May 18, 2017 Ages: 7-12th grades Fees: Free. Can join the class any-time. Please, register in advance!

Class Description: Looking to explore a new medium or advance existing techniques? Wishing to meet fellow artists or prepare a portfolio for college applications? Art Lab is the place to be! Classes will focus on different media and techniques guided by professional artists.

Zombie Survival

June 14-16

Camp Description: The Nicolaysen Art Museum an the Science Zone are teaming up to bring the science magic of the big screen to life. Campers will explore the artistry of zombie makeup and zombie cartooning at the NIC and at the Science Zone students will learn about the spread of epidemic diseases, as well as, and come up with an apocalypse survival plan.

Art & the Cosmic Connection

June 27-30
Ages: 9-14 years old

Camp Description: The cosmos is a beautiful place and NASA satellites are constantly sending back images of breathtaking scenery from all over the solar system. How do scientists decipher the code? By understanding art! Join the Nicolaysen Art Museum and the Science Zone as we explore NASA’s code to the universe through the elements of art and planetary geology.

Eye on the Solar Eclipse

July 17-21
Ages: 6-9 years old
Time: 9am-12pm
Ages: 10-14 years old
Time: 1pm-4pm
Fees: $80 for members and $115 for non-members
Camp Description: It’s coming! Get ready for the total solar eclipse of 2017. During the camp we’ll learn about the sun, earth and moon and their interaction during a solar eclipse. We’ll visit the Planetarium to delve into the science of solar eclipse and create art inspired by sun, moon and solar eclipse at The NIC.

Dirty Works: Exploring Clay and Messy Art

July 24-28
Ages: 6-9 years old
Time: 9am-12pm
Ages: 10-14 years old
Time: 1pm-4pm
Fees: $80 for members and $115 for non-members
Camp Description: Squish it, roll it, and mold it. Splash, tear and get messy! Enjoy the variety of messy art projects, including clay building. Projects will incorporate coil-building, slab-building, experimenting with textures, splash painting and more.

Adults Workshops

Ceramic Knitting Bowl Workshop with Ryan Olsen

Saturday, February 25:

If you have been looking for that perfect knitting bowl to complement your style, technique or decor, this fun workshop is for you. We will provide the clay, supplies and expert instruction, for all ages and experience levels.

Local ceramic artists and teacher, Ryan Olsen will bring his 16 years of experience to help guide participants using simple clay construction techniques. He will also demonstrate decorative techniques to help you personalize your unique creation with pattern and color. You don’t have to be a knitter or fiber artist to participate in this workshop, Ryan will help you customize your bowl to your liking.
